Take the AREX train unless you have a reason not to — it is fast, cheap, and immune to Seoul's famous traffic. Take the airport limousine bus if you have heavy bags and your hotel sits on a direct route, because you never touch your luggage until your stop. Take a taxi when it is late, when you are splitting the fare, or when you simply cannot face a transfer. Skip the idea of a KTX from the airport — there is no direct high-speed line into central Seoul, so the train option is AREX.

AREX (Airport Railroad Express)
Two trains run on the same track from the basement (B1) of both terminals. The all-stop train (₩9,500) makes 13 stops including Gimpo Airport, Hongik University (Hongdae) and Digital Media City before Seoul Station, and you can tap in with a T-money card. The express train (₩13,000, sometimes ~₩11,500 pre-booked online) runs non-stop to Seoul Station in about 43 minutes with a reserved seat. Both are punctual and comfortable. The catch: at Seoul Station or your stop you may still need one subway transfer to reach your hotel, dragging bags through the station.
Airport limousine bus
Buses leave from the ground-floor curb (look for the numbered stands outside gates 4–9 in Terminal 1). Standard deluxe routes such as the 6001 and 6015 cost about ₩17,000, and premium K-Limousine or KAL routes about ₩18,000. You buy a ticket at the kiosk, the driver stows your suitcase under the coach, and you ride in a big reclining seat straight to a stop near major hotels and districts. The downside is traffic: a jam on the expressway can push the trip past 90 minutes.
Taxi
Regular (orange or silver) metered taxis run roughly ₩55,000–80,000 to central Seoul; deluxe black taxis are ₩80,000–120,000 with more room and English-speaking drivers; international taxis offer flat fares around ₩55,000–75,000 booked at a dedicated desk. Every airport taxi adds the ₩7,900 Incheon Expressway toll, and a 20% night surcharge applies between midnight and 4am. It is the only true door-to-door option and the only one that always runs, even at 3am.
